My collage-style textile art is inspired by the resilience of native plants and the stories they tell about survival. The Joshua tree has always fascinated me—a striking desert plant that reaches toward the sky while enduring intense heat, drought, wind, and rugged landscapes. Its twisted branches and sculptural form reflect a quiet strength: rather than resisting the harshness of its environment, it has adapted to it and found a way to thrive.
Using scraps of fabric, layered textures, and free-form stitching, I created this botanical portrait to celebrate the beauty and resilience of the desert ecosystem. The process of transforming discarded textiles into something new echoes nature’s own cycles of adaptation and renewal. To me, the Joshua tree is a reminder that resilience doesn't always look like strength or perfection. Sometimes it looks like bending, adapting, putting down roots, and continuing to reach toward the light.
